Less than a week after creating a void at corner via trade, Carolina is using free agency to fill it.

The Panthers are expected to sign cornerback Bashaud Breeland, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo adds the deal is for three years and is worth $24 million with $11 million in guarantees.

Breeland started at corner for the Washington Redskins in each of his first four seasons in the league, tallying 215 tackles, eight interceptions, 60 passes defensed and one sack in that span. Starting opposite Josh Norman, Breeland inevitably became the more targeted corner, which has produced good and occasionally bad results. Continue reading

Oh, how a quarterback can change everything.

Not too long ago, San Francisco was considered a cellar-dwelling franchise devoid of talent with a long road ahead to relevance. The 49ers were without a franchise quarterback, and fresh off two seasons of absolute ineptitude under Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly, were without a win through nine weeks of the 2017 season.

Then came Jimmy Garoppolo, and just over a month later, a Week 13 win over Chicago. San Francisco hasn’t lost since. Continue reading

Richard Sherman‘s free-agency tour began with the San Francisco 49ers, and it won’t extend beyond the Bay Area.

The veteran cornerback has agreed to a three-year deal with the 49ers worth $39 million (including a $5 million signing bonus), NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Sherman was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the week after the team decided it wanted to give the veteran an early start on free agency. The defensive back has been among the league’s best for the last five years, becoming a lockdown defender and face of Seattle’s Legion of Boom secondary. He’s been as excellent as he’s been topical, boisterous on the field (backed up by his play) and outspoken off it. Continue reading

He’ll be joining a secondary that features another newcomer in cornerback Marcus Peters (also acquired via trade) and one of the league’s better safeties in Lamarcus Joyner, who received the franchise tag. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Talib is excited for what’s next. Continue reading
