The Miami Dolphins are spending the week in California, displaced by Hurricane Irma, but that isn’t keeping them from helping others.

Another group of football-playing folks have been displaced by the hurricane, stranded in Las Vegas after the storm with their situation away from home becoming more dire by the day. The Dolphinsdecided to use their available resources to make at least one team’s situation better. Continue reading

Praise the heavens and all things pigskin, because football is back.

The return of the NFL regular season sent all but two of the league’s 32 clubs to the field for action in Week 1. That means 15 teams started their seasons away from home.

It sounds daunting, sure, but beginning the campaign on the road also has its sneaky positives. As the road team, you get a chance to ruin someone’s home opener, their welcome back in front of their faithful. When free agency arrives, most fans aren’t hoping their teams shell out truckloads of money on the hottest prospect at guard. Why? Well, because it’s not sexy. From a merchandising perspective, it doesn’t sell jerseys, either.

But what it does produce, usually, is wins.

Look no further than the line of the Oakland Raiders, who are spending nearly $173 million on their offensive line in terms of total contract value for the starting five. Texans to honor first responders before game Sunday

Houston has been anything but normal in the last month, but on Sunday, a little bit of normalcy will return to the city, if only for a few hours.

While the Texans will take the field to the raucous cheers of their fans for a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the franchise will make sure those in attendance and watching on television won’t forget the efforts of the brave in Houston. Area first responders, Houston city officials and related members vital to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts will be honored by the franchise before the game Sunday, the team announced Thursday. Janikowski’s back issue forces Raiders to try kickers

Through all of the ups and downs in Oakland over most of the last two decades, there’s been one constant: Sebastian Janikowski.

The kicker, selected 17th overall in 2000 by the Raiders, has spent his entire career in Oakland, earning a reputation as a strong-legged, mostly dependable boot for the Silver and Black. Waivers: Will Tye, Brad Kaaya among players claimed

A day after 32 teams trimmed their rosters from 90 to 53, a collection of players have been claimed by new employers.

Among those: Quarterback Brad Kaaya, who moves from Detroit to Carolina, and tight end Will Tye, who will stay in the same city but switch teams, going from the Giants to the Jets.

Wideout Kasen Williams, a preseason standout in Seattle, joins the Browns. Kicker Cody Parkey, whose missed kick in Miami cost Cleveland a win last season, has joined the Dolphins.
