Richard Sherman‘s free-agency tour began with the San Francisco 49ers, and it won’t extend beyond the Bay Area.

The veteran cornerback has agreed to a three-year deal with the 49ers worth $39 million (including a $5 million signing bonus), NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Sherman was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the week after the team decided it wanted to give the veteran an early start on free agency. The defensive back has been among the league’s best for the last five years, becoming a lockdown defender and face of Seattle’s Legion of Boom secondary. He’s been as excellent as he’s been topical, boisterous on the field (backed up by his play) and outspoken off it. Continue reading

Aqib Talib excited to join Marcus Peters, L.A. Rams

Once trades become official Wednesday, Aqib Talib will be off to the West Coast to begin a new chapter in his career with the Los Angeles Rams.

He’ll be joining a secondary that features another newcomer in cornerback Marcus Peters (also acquired via trade) and one of the league’s better safeties in Lamarcus Joyner, who received the franchise tag. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Talib is excited for what’s next. Continue reading

The franchise tag deadline passed and a fresh crop of players are set to get paid for one season, but one team had to maneuver to fit all of its salaries under the cap.

Pittsburgh and wide receiver Antonio Brown agreed to a contract restructuring that frees up $9.7 million of space, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Total Access on Wednesday. Continue reading

News broke Monday that the Steelers intended to use the tag on Bell to keep the elite running back in the Steel City, and they followed through on Tuesday, using the exclusive-rights tag on Bell. We’re far from a resolution on this one, though, as Bell is bent on reaching an unseen salary number for the position. Packers among teams meeting with Ward at combine

INDIANAPOLIS — Denzel Ward stepped to the podium at the NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday and was immediately peppered with questions about why he sat out of his final college game (the Cotton Bowl against USC).

He handled each with ease, detailing the internal conflict with which he dealt and the support he received from his coaches.
