CLEVELAND — While some of his most notable teammates were parading on a stage in fancy new duds, Johnny Manziel was more than one thousand miles away in Arlington, Texas, at a Texas Rangers game.
That didn’t keep his name out of questions asked after the uniform reveal at the Cleveland Convention Center on Tuesday night. Continue reading

CLEVELAND — In an offseason filled mostly by Johnny Manziel headlines and low-excitement signings, the Cleveland Browns gave their fans a reason to cheer Tuesday for the first time since their final win of 2014.
Nearly 3,000 Browns supporters — a majority of which were season-ticket holders, according to the team — flowed into the Cleveland Convention Center to pose for pictures with super fans, current and past players, and even the team’s live canine mascot, Swagger. The scene — beer-clutching fans clad in orange and brown, chanting for their team — resembled an indoor tailgate as those in attendance awaited the main event: the introduction of new uniforms. Friday was the first day of workouts for offensive linemen, tight ends and special teamers, but as is often in the NFL, quarterback talk ruled the day.
St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher pushed his big pile of confidence chips into the center of the table, telling reporters that his team is “betting on” Sam Bradford. Quarterback guru George Whitfield told reporters the possibility of Marcus Mariota landing on the same roster as 2014 first-round selection Johnny Manziel in Cleveland was a “very real situation.”
And then there was Jameis Winston taking the podium and telling reporters he’s planning on winning the Super Bowl next season. As if the football world hadn’t already adjusted to Winston’s tendency to provide surprising sound bytes, this one ranks among the most eye-opening.
As the quarterback goes, so goes the team in the NFL — and apparently so goes the media portion of the combine. Here are our takeaways from Friday at the combine: Continue reading

Bill Belichick has long been known as a man of few words.
That alone made Tuesday’s Media Day performance a rarity. The coach who commonly mumbles and grumbles his way through weekly news conferences donned a hint of a smile while approaching his podium inside US Airways Center in Phoenix, serving as a hint that he would be a bit more expansive on a wide array of subjects, including his favorite type of stuffed animal.
But when asked about Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, the Super Bowl-winning czar of the Patriots was effusive in his comments on his relationship with his counterpart in Super Bowl XLIX. Continue reading

Josh Gordon‘s career could be in jeopardy.
The Cleveland Browns‘ often-troubled wide receiver has tested positive for alcohol and faces a one-year banishment, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media’s Albert Breer reported.
Due to Gordon’s past DUI, alcohol is one of the substances for which he is tested. Gordon is in Stage Three of the program, and under Stage Three he is tested for alcohol for a minimum of two years. The failed test came after the conclusion of the 2014 regular season, Breer reported.
The receiver may appeal, but it’s unlikely to work, Rapoport added. Continue reading
