Let the record show that, on Nov. 28, 2016, Mr. Irrelevant became relevant, if only for a moment.

The Tennessee Titans announced Monday that they’ve released cornerback Perrish Cox and promoted defensive back Kalan Reed from the practice squad.

Cox signed with Tennessee in March 2015 and played in 24 games with Tennessee over two seasons, recording three interceptions but too often showing issues in coverage as he nears 30 years old. The Titans opted to go younger at the position, giving future playing time to a defensive back they’ve had an exclusive look at in practice all season.

Drafted with the 253rd and final pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Reed spent the previous four years at Southern Mississippi, where he started in 39 of 48 games played, recording 152 career tackles and eight interceptions, including three returned for touchdowns. The defensive back with Nashville roots will join a secondary that also includes cornerbacks Jason McCourty, Brice McCain and Valentino Blake, as well as safeties Da’Norris Searcy and Rashad Johnson.
