The Colts have welcomed a new general manager to the organization in the last week with the addition of Chris Ballard.

Now they’re in the market for a punter.

Pat McAfee is retiring from the National Football League, the punter announced on Comedy Central’s Barstool Rundown on Wednesday night. Selected in the seventh round out of West Viginia in the 2009 NFL Draft, the outspoken and often comical special teamer spent eight seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. McAfee, who had a flair for making punting more than just a thankless contribution to the game, finishes with a career net average of 40.1 yards and a career long of 74 yards, which he achieved in 2016.

As reliable as he was on the field as a punter and kickoff specialist, McAfee was equally, if not more known for his exuberance both on and off the field. The punter took to social media on many occasions to question the randomness of his drug tests just hours after making tackles or booming long kicks, and was the star of an in-season morning segment titled “Kickin’ It with Pat McAfee” on NFL Network, a platform he liked to use to let America know that punters are people, too.

McAfee finishes with 26,669 punting yards, 43,621 kickoff yards and 21 tackles. Unfortunately, we’ll be robbed of peak punter wars between McAfee and Raiders punter Marquette King, who now assumes the throne of Coolest Punter by default.
