A dream is closer to becoming a reality for an Arizona student-athlete.
Two-star cornerback Donjae Logan (class of 2018) committed to Stanford on Friday evening. Logan announced his commitment via Twitter.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound defensive back from Desert Ridge High School (Mesa, Ariz.) received the offer Wednesday after attending Stanford’s Friday Night Lights camp on July 28, according to Jacob Rayburn of Rivals. His performance impressed the staff enough to extend the offer, and it took just 48 hours for Logan to give his commitment to the Cardinal.
“Growing up I’ve always been pretty good with math and knew I’d like to get into engineering, and Stanford is one of the greatest schools academically,” Logan told Scout.com. “Everyone has been telling me Stanford is a great school for engineering since I was about 10, and obviously what they have been doing on the football field is big. Watching them since Andrew Luck was there and seeing what they were doing, it’s just a perfect football school. I love football and I’m passionate about it, so academically and football wise, on top of it being in California, I just love everything it has to offer.”
Logan’s rating is somewhat murky, because based on 247Sports’ composite score, he falls in the two-star category, but Scout ranks him as a three-star. We’ll stick with the composite score rating here, but what is intriguing about Logan is where he’ll fit in Stanford’s defense. The prospect shed some light on where Stanford coach David Shaw and director of defense Lance Anderson see Logan playing.
“They plan to use me as a nickel type because I would be able to shut down the middle,” Logan said. “I feel that I would fit in well there. I tend to rise to the occasion and I consider myself to be very competitive — I’ve been that way my whole life. So even if I’m not the best, I’ll work hard to try to prove that I am the best. I’m confident that my work ethic will take me far in football. Obviously I have something they like and I plan on maximizing myself there.”
Logan, who also had offers from Hawaii, Army, New Mexico and Washington State, reiterated his dream-come-true moment he experienced this week.
“This was the one school that if I got the offer, I knew enough about it to commit quickly,” Logan said. “This is my dream school. It’s amazing my family will be able to visit and it’s great knowing I’m going to be a part of the Stanford program. It’s surreal. It’s been a dream of mine and I definitely plan on living that dream.”
