Signing Brandon Flowers helped San Diego retain the strength of its secondary, but the Chargers didn’t stop there.

San Diego signed defensive back Jimmy Wilson, the team announced Friday. Wilson’s contract is a two-year deal worth $4.85 million, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per a source.

Wilson spent the previous four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, tallying 133 solo tackles, 16 passes defensed, four interceptions and three forced fumbles in 60 games. The 28-year-old adds depth to a Chargers unit that features Flowers and young standout Jason Verrett at the cornerback positions, and three-time Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle. Wilson will be in the mix to start at strong safety with incumbent starter Marcus Gilchrist about to join the New York Jets.
